A shoutcast server on blumaise.org?

| | Commentaires (4)

I have been wondering lately how I could use blumaise.org as a shoutcast relay. Sometimes I stream some live mix, and since upload bandwidth here in France is incredibly little (thanks to Wanadoo!), only one person can listen to it at a time. So I wondered if it would be possible to use a relay with more bandwidth. I could have installed Shoutcast server on my web account, but I can't do that because I don't have a dedicated server.
Well, then how could I do? There should be a way to write a php script that would do that well. Get the stream from my house, then make it available to more people. If anyone has an idea, please let me know in the comments!

Oh and by the way, I uploaded my last mix, streamed live for only one person. Quite crappy, but feel free to listen to it, it's right in radio blog, here on your right.

Here some answers to your problem :

PicoStreamer is a complete server for live audio/video streaming, similiar to Shoutcast. It only needs a Web server with Perl and PHP. It requires neither expensive dedicated servers nor compilation on the target machine. A source client (for Win32) is included. A managment/playing framework written in PHP makes PicoStreamer simple to use. The PicoIcy component acts as a local shoucast server emulator, so you can use your preferred shoutcast source client to stream. (Note: the comment on the following page is interresting)

PHPCast is a PHP script that "emulates" a stream server for MP3 files, like Shoutcast, but directly from the Web server. It reads MP3 files from a data directory and interprets ID3 tags correctly.

A Shoutcast proxy but need a dedicated server too (it can be interresting for the code ;)

Good Luck ! :)

Thanks for your comments Grumz. I already downloaded and gave a first look at the first two scripts you talked about.
I think I need to do some reading before going any further. Thanks for your input!

Not appropriate for streaming, but I recently stumbled upon this : http://www.coralcdn.org/

An interesting way of saving bandwidth for static content...

Thanks for your input Mr Jonathan, I'll have a look at this concept.
